How Morocco Should Be Done: My Third Visit Changed Everything

đ How Morocco Should Be Done: My Third Visit Changed Everything
By Iris Martin, Founder of Surreal Journeys Travel
⨠The Country That Surprised Me⌠Again
If youâve ever dreamed of visiting Morocco, I get it. The colors, the call to prayer echoing through the air, the spices, the people; itâs the kind of destination that looks like a painting and feels like poetry.
But let me be completely honest with you⌠Iâve been to Morocco three times.
The first two were beautiful, donât get me wrong. I checked the boxes. I wandered through the markets, and snapped photos of the gorgeous mosques, then when I got home, I remember thinking, âThat was nice, but I donât need to go back.â
At the time, Morocco felt like a place I had experienced, not one I needed to return to.
And then, everything changed.
đ A Gifted Journey That Redefined My View
This year, one of my new suppliers invited me on a trip to experience how he coordinates Morocco group tours.
I didnât realize it then, but this was about to be one of the most incredible travel experiences of my life.
From the moment my private driver greeted me at the airport, I knew this wasnât going to be a typical fam trip. This was luxury with purpose, a carefully crafted journey through the real Morocco, the one that most travelers never see.
đ My Route Through Morocco
Rabat â The Coastal Beginning
Our journey began in Rabat, the capital city that blends history and modernity so effortlessly. The ocean breeze, the calm streets, and the coastal elegance set the tone for what was to come.
Chefchaouen â The Blue City Dream
From there, we made our way to Chefchaouen, a city painted in shades of blue that feel straight out of a fairytale. I hadn't been there before, but heard about it. when I visited, it really blew my mind. The weather was perfect, so I wasnât rushing for photos. I was living in the moment. The peace, the rhythm, the quiet beauty. It hit differently.
Fez â The Soul of Morocco
Next stop: Fez. Imagine walking through a medina so ancient it feels like a time machine. Narrow alleys, colorful doors, the smell of leather and spice in the air, itâs chaotic and magical at the same time. Watching local artisans work reminded me how deeply Morocco values tradition and craft.
Merzouga â The Desert Dream
And then came the moment that stole my heart! Merzouga, deep in the Sahara Desert. My luxury tent camp was surrounded by nothing but golden dunes and silence. I watched the sunset melt into the horizon and woke up under a sky full of stars. Itâs hard to describe peace until youâve felt that kind of quiet. My luxury cabin provided all of the perks a luxury hotel provided, but with a sense of freedom. The desert had the softest, most beautiful sand I had ever seen. The camel ride as the sun set filled me with so much joy. I sat and meditated.
Dades Gorge & Marrakech â The Grand Finale
We continued through Dades Gorge, where mountains meet rivers in breathtaking harmony, and ended in Marrakech; the heartbeat of Morocco. The energy here is unmatched. From the souks and spice stalls to the rooftop dinners and traditional hammams, Marrakech reminded me why people fall in love with this country. I enjoyed a hot air balloon ride and watched the sun rise. To end my trip, i visited a dinner dance show and sang songs from the Motown era.
đŤ What Made This Trip Different
I realized that the destination wasnât what changed, the experience did.
My new tour manager handled every detail with perfection; private transfers, incredible Riads, authentic local meals, and unexpected moments that turned a simple trip into something surreal.
This is the version of Morocco I want my clients to experience, the version that feels curated, seamless, and emotionally rich.
â¤ď¸ A Personal Transformation
When I first started Surreal Journeys Travel, I promised myself that I would never send clients anywhere I hadnât personally experienced.
This trip reminded me why thatâs so important.
Travel isnât just about where you go, itâs about how you experience it.
And now that Iâve seen the real Morocco, I can confidently sayâŚ
âYou havenât truly experienced Morocco until youâve done it with SJT.â
đ§ The SJT Morocco Experience
Coming soon, Iâll be curating an exclusive SJT Morocco Experience, a small-group luxury adventure designed for travelers who want more than just a vacation.
